About Our Conference
This first in a series of annual conferences hosted by the National Heath IT Collaborative for the Underserved will present “cutting edge” strategies that use health information technology (HIT) tools to advance health and eliminate disparities. While the focus of discussion is on multicultural underserved communities, presenters will offer solutions to help transform the nation’s health care ecosystem. Our vision for this transformation is to ensure that all individuals in the United States have the tools, and use them, to attain and maintain their highest level of health and well-being.

Five key pillars of an effective and efficient health ecosystem are:

  • Consumer knowledge of health and HIT and their full participation as partners in safeguarding and managing their own health and the health of their families.
  • Adoption of HIT by providers serving multicultural communities, and their equitable participation in programs that supportdelivery of high quality, cost effective care.
  • Effective  educational, training and placement programs  available to members of multicultural communities that can prepare them for HIT and health-care related careers.
  • Establishment and implementation of policies that support individual and community health empowerment and promote system transformation.
  • Identification of priority areas where gaps exist in the ability to use Health IT to address disparities, and definition of actionable next steps.
Conference plenary and discussion sessions, exhibits and other activities will address these five pillars.

Conference Objectives
We plan to achieve these objectives:
  • Share information, strategies and HIT applications/devices that help members of multicultural communities improve and manage  their health.
  • Encourage providers to adopt HIT and/or to use this technology to deliver high quality care and track and close health gaps.
  • Offer opportunities for youth and adults to learn about HIT and health care workforce-related education/training, mentoring, placement options and careers.
  • Identify policies and policy options that can help empower multicultural communities and transform health care in the nation.
  • Open doors to new partnerships involving vendors, government agencies, foundations, educational/training institutions and multicultural community organizations.
